I have decided to go at it once again and compete in RAAM 2021.

For those of you who know me well, this likely isn’t a huge surprise. The pull to compete in Race Across America is greater than ever; my reasoning – I feel that I can still ride it faster. In 2019 I arrived at the starting line a little (a lot) over cooked.  I had neglected harder quality riding to quantity and did mega hours with very little recovery weeks. The reality of not having raced for so long and the pressure to make a comeback at 50, drove me to the mindset that more is better.  After the race, my coach John Howard enlightened me, he said “Either you win or you learn.”

So I learned and hopefully I’m just a wee bit smarter with my training this year.  We also had some crew issues and navigation problems in RAAM 2019. These things happen when you set your mind to undertake a gruelling 3000+ mile ride across the country.

Now the work begins! My incredible sponsors are back on board and I am extremely grateful and appreciate their support more than they’ll every know.  They include  KHS Bicycles, Shimano wheels and components, D-Curve helmets and eye wear, Bike Fit Solutions, Pactimo clothing , Firma Wear  compression clothing, Continental Tires, Hammer Nutrition,  Amp Human and their amazing PR Lotion, Bryton USA riding APP, Epic Ride Weather,  Icey Tek Canada  and Bontrager Bike Lights. Thank you so much and from the bottom of my heart!

I also want to thank my coach, John Howard and also Muffy Ritz who is a legend (the biggest battle in RAAM was waged between Muffy and Seanna Hogan) for spending time with me during her holidays last year and sharing her very valuable advice.

Last and definitely not least, BIG THANKS to my super amazing, awesome team. Without whom this race would not be possible; Lori Moger (crew chief), Connie Cantrell, Rob Martin, Lisa Dorian, Kaitlin Swales, Denise Bakker, Gil Sneed, Bailey Cantrell and Katrina Lenoury.  If I have missed anyone I deeply apologize. Seems that’s what happens when you turn 50… the brain starts to SHRINK!!

RAAM 2021 HERE WE COME.

LET’S DO THIS! NO LIMITS!

RAAM 2021 is considered the World’s Toughest Bicycle Race!

Leah’s RAAM Solo Start is Tuesday, June, 15, 2021. Race Across America (RAAM) is one of the most respected and longest running ultra-endurance events in the world. RAAM is seen as a pinnacle of athletic achievement not only in cycling circles but the greater sporting community as well.

There is no other race in the world like RAAM. There is no race that combines the distance, terrain and weather; no other event that tests a team’s spirit from beginning to end. The Race inspires everyone who has been a part of it – racer, crew, staff and fans alike. RAAM is the true test of speed, endurance, strength and camaraderie, the ideal combination of work and play. *
